Sargent Kirkby Door Plate

Decorative English Gothic style door plate made by Sargent. Kirkby design. Cir. 1901.It is made of cast iron with a factory black finish. The finish is nicely intact. The door plate features delicate shaping at the top, bottom and corners. It measures 9 1/2"h x 3 1/8"w at the widest point. It measures 2 1/8"w at the doorknob area. The back is marked Sargent & Co. KG.

Sargent Manufacturing was founded in 1857 in New Britain, Ct. by brothers Joseph, George and Edward Sargent. In 1864 they moved to New Haven, CT. They were a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. Sargent Lock continues today under the ownership of Assa Abloy.
