Sargent Argos Cylinder Lock Door Plate

Decorative cast bronze door plate for a cylinder lock and knob made by Sargent. Argos design. Cir. 1901.The door plate features a Greek inspired architrave type design with scrolling at the top and bottom and a border. The door plate measures 13"h x 3 1/4"w. The center to center distance between the doorknob hole and cylinder lock hole is 4". The cylinder hole measures 1 1/4"diam. The plate is marked on the back Sargent & Co.

It has a nice deep even patina.

Sargent Manufacturing was founded in 1857 in New Britain, Ct. by brothers Joseph, George and Edward Sargent. In 1864 they moved to New Haven, CT. They were a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. Sargent Lock continues today under the ownership of Assa Abloy.
