Decorative doorknob. Reading "Reole" design. Cir. 1899-1911. This design was available in cast bronze and cast iron. This knob is the cast iron version. It appears to have has a factory black finish instead of bronze plating. Some of the black finish has worn off. It features a twofold design with a raised oval center.

The doorknob measures 2 1/4"diam. It fits on a standard non-threaded square shaft.

Reading

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading's hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
