Reading Courtray Doorknob

Heavy bronze decorative doorknob by Reading. Courtray design. Cir. 1899-1911. Highly detailed floral and leaf decoration on the top with a bead border. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam. It takes a slightly oversized square non-threaded shaft. The opening measures 5/16". A standard shaft could potentially be shimmed to fit securely. 

It has a very dark patina.

Reading

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading's hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
