Reading 1881 Doorknob

Bronze decorative doorknob made by by Reading. Cir. 1881. Highly detailed with decoration on the top and along the underside.  Eastlake style with floral and geometric elements. The doorknob measures 2 1/4"diam. It fits on a standard size square non-threaded shaft.

Nice even patina throughout.

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading's hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
