Oliver Hotel Monogrammed Doorknob
Single monogrammed bronze doorknob from the Oliver Hotel in South Bend, Indiana. It features a T and O in the center over a textured background and a bead border on the edge. A simple but quite striking design. The doorknob measures 2 1/4"diam. It fits on a standard square non-threaded shaft.
The doorknob has a few minor scratches, bit is in overall very good condition with very little wear.
The hotel opened in December 1899 and was sponsored by James and J.D. Oliver to offer a high class hotel option in the city for their business associates.. It was built as a luxury hotel and could hold up to 40,000 people. It was located at the corner of Main and Washington streets and rose six stories high. The hotel was designed by Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge in a Renaissance style. Part of the luxury offerings were custom furnishings and an on-site Turkish bath. The hotel closed in 1967 and was later demolished. A modern office building known as Chase Tower now stands at the location.
This Oliver Hotel Monogrammed Doorknob is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
