Norwich Doorknob

Double sided decorative doorknob made by Norwich. Not seen in the 1892 catalogue, but it has the same top ornamentation as doorknob 4252. This doorknob is a more standard shape. The top part is made of cast bronze while the bottom is cast iron.  The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam.  The decoration is an abstract swirling floral or acanthus leaf motif. with the leaves repeated on the underside. The doorknob takes a standard square non-threaded shaft.

Excellent condition with a nice even patina. A small additional screw has been added to the neck of the doorknob to help with securing.

The second doorknob has been polished. If you would prefer the polished knob please let us know when ordering. Otherwise, the default is the knob in the photos.

This Norwich Doorknob is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.

Norwich Lock Manufacturing Co.

Norwich Lock Company began in 1865 in Norwich, Connecticut. The name changed to Norwalk Lock Manufacturing Company in 1872. By 1888, it was one of the three largest manufacturers of locks in the US, although it produced more than just locks. They manufactured a full line of building hardware including keys, door plates, doorknobs and padlocks. The company moved to Virginia in 1891 and continued in business until 1905.
