Norwich 1892 Double Keyhole Door Plate

Highly decorative cast bronze door plate made by Norwich. Cir. 1892. It features geometric and floral motifs over a textured background. The door plate measures 7 5/8"h x 2 1/4"w. It has two keyholes. The bottom keyhole has a swinging cover. Center to center distance from the doorknob hole to first keyhole is 2". Center to center from the doorknob hole to the second keyhole is 3 1/2". The door plate has a nice dark patina.

Norwich Lock Manufacturing Co.

Norwich Lock Company began in 1865 in Norwich, Connecticut. The name changed to Norwalk Lock Manufacturing Company in 1872. By 1888, it was one of the three largest manufacturers of locks in the US, although it produced more than just locks. They manufactured a full line of building hardware including keys, door plates, doorknobs and padlocks. The company moved to Virginia in 1891 and continued in business until 1905.
