Mallory Wheeler Fleur de Lis Double Keyhole Door Plate
Antique cast bronze doorknob made by Mallory Wheeler. Fleur de Lis design. Cir 1892. The door plate features two fleur de lis at the top and more stylized versions of the theme below. This is a double keyhole version, often used for apartments or rental commercial properties where there would be a master key and a tenant key. The door plate is oversized and measures 7 1/8"h x 1 7/8"w. The center to center distance between the doorknob hole and top keyhole is 1 3/4". Center to center distance between the doorknob hole and bottom keyhole is 3 1/4". The door plate is marked on the back C 1338 M. W. Co.
This door plate has been highly polished.

Mallory Wheeler
Mallory Wheeler began in 1834 in New Haven Conn. Under the name Pierpont & Hotchkiss. In 1866 the name changed to Davenport, Mallory & Co., then in 1868 it became Mallory, Wheeler & Co. under John Davenport Wheeler. They made high quality, quite ornate hardware and won a number of awards for their designs. Sargent was a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. The company closed due to bankruptcy in 1913.
