Mallory Wheeler Arabic Doorknob

Bronze doorknob by Mallory Wheeler. Arabic design. Cir. 1890. There were a few variations of this design offered. This variation has stylized arabic script characters in the center with the decoration extending around to the back of the knob. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam. Excellent condition with nice patina. Very minor scratching on flat surface of characters.

Mallory Wheeler

Mallory Wheeler began in 1834 in New Haven Conn. Under the name Pierpont & Hotchkiss. In 1866 the name changed to Davenport, Mallory & Co., then in 1868 it became Mallory, Wheeler & Co. under John Davenport Wheeler. They made high quality, quite ornate hardware and won a number of awards for their designs. Sargent was a distributor for the Mallory Wheeler Company up until about 1882. The company closed due to bancruptcy in 1913.
