Lockwood Bordeaux Doorknob
Decorative cast iron doorknob made by Lockwood. Bordeaux design. This design was originally offered in cast bronze, brass or iron. It features a highly decorative swirl pattern with raised edges forming to a center nub. The swirls resemble large flowing leaves. Cir. 1897-1914. The swirls continue on the underside of the knob. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam. Unique shaping, it feels quite nice in the hand.
Some pitting, mostly around the edge and neck.

Lockwood
Lockwood Hardware Manufacturing Company began in 1878 under Henry Sanford Lockwood and Henry W. Lester. In 1889, Lockwood purchased the Nashua Lock Company. After suffering a bit of decline due to the Great Depression, the Independent Lock Company (ILCO) absorbed Lockwood. In 1934, an Australia branch began which continues to this day The company was later reincorporated under the original name. It continues today as Lockwood under the Assa Abloy Group.
