Lockwood Azex Door Handle

Cast Bronze door handle made by Lockwood. Cir. 1932. It features art deco styling with a functional thumb latch. The handle measures 10"h x 1 7/8"w. It has holes for attachment on the front but also has areas for two bolts on the back to attach through the door. The bolt holes are spaced 5 1/4" center to center. The thumb latch functions with a projection into the door. The inside bar of the thumb latch measures 1 1/4"l.

Lockwood Hardware Manufacturing Company began in 1878 under Henry Sanford Lockwood and Henry W. Lester. In 1889, Lockwood purchased the Nashua Lock Company. After suffering a bit of decline due to the Great Depression, the Independent Lock Company (ILCO) absorbed Lockwood. In 1934, an Australia branch began which continues to this day The company was later reincorporated under the original name. It continues today as Lockwood under the Assa Abloy Group.
