Gurney-Tilden Bronze Shaped Door Plate
Cast bronze decorative door plate made by Gurney-Tilden. Cir. 1890. The plate is intricately shaped. It features an Eastlake style design with a geometric grid and japanned background with a starburst design. The door plate measures 5"h x 2 1/4"w. It is marked Gurney on the back. This plate has a 2 1/4" center to center distance between the doorknob hole and keyhole. The hole for the doorknob is a bit small at 5/8"diam.
The door plate has a nice even patina and is in very good condition considering the age.
This Gurney-Tilden Bronze Door Plate is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
Gurney-Tilden
The company was started by two brothers in Hamilton, Ontario Canada as a foundry for the making of stoves and stove parts in 1845 under the name of Gurney and Carpenter Iron Foundry. In 1884, the company came under the name of Gurney-Tilden Company with john Tilden as president. They expanded their offerings to Building Hardware and produced a catalogue of fine hardware in 1902. Building hardware production however, was short live, tapering off around 1910 when the company was taken over by the Hamilton Stove and Heater Company.
