Corbin Voltaire Doorknob Brass

Wrought brass doorknob made by Corbin. Voltaire design. Cir. 1905-1911. A twofold design with a central raised circle. The doorknob measures 2 1/4"diam. It fits on a standard non-threaded square shaft. The construction is slightly different than the bronze knob along the neck.

The doorknob has a deep, consistent patina. A few minor scratches.

Corbin

P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900’s including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
