Corbin Orvieto Doorknob

Decorative cast bronze doorknob made by Corbin. Orvieto design. Cir1905. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam.  It features a concentric floral design with a decorative border. The edge is wide, making it almost drum shaped in the hand. This design was used in Pittsburgh's famous Frick Building. The doorknob fits on a standard square non-threaded shaft. This knob uses a securing pin instead of a set screw. This was a security mechanism mainly used for exterior doors so that the knob could not be removed with a screwdriver.

There is some scratching from use on the middle and edges.

This Corbin Orvieto Doorknob is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.

Corbin

P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900's including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
