Norwich 4252 Bronze Doorknob
Highly decorative heavy bronze doorknob made by Norwich. Cir 1892. Unnamed design, 4252 is the catalogue number. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam. It is a unique thick drum shape with multiple ridges along the side The decoration is an abstract swirling floral or acanthus leaf motif. The doorknob takes a standard square non-threaded shaft.
Excellent condition with a nice even patina.

Norwich Lock Manufacturing Co.
Norwich Lock Company began in 1865 in Norwich, Connecticut. The name changed to Norwalk Lock Manufacturing Company in 1872. By 1888, it was one of the three largest manufacturers of locks in the US, although it produced more than just locks. They manufactured a full line of building hardware including keys, door plates, doorknobs and padlocks. The company moved to Virginia in 1891 and continued in business until 1905.
