Corbin Cushion Doorknob
Highly decorative heavy bronze doorknob made by Corbin. Cushion design. Cir 1886. The doorknob measures 2 1/4" diam. It is a unique drum shape with decoration along the flat side. The decoration is floral, with small flowers in the center and a radiating design along the edge to create one large flower. The hole for the doorknob shaft will fit a standard sized shaft, but is more rectangular so there will be a gap if setting on a standard shaft. This design was patented # D16,656 on April 27, 1886 by George S. Barkentin.
Excellent condition with a nice even patina.
This Corbin Cushion Doorknob is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
Corbin
P&F Corbin was founded by brothers Philip and Frank Corbin in New Britain, CT. in 1851. Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900's including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
