Corbin BM 3 Flat Key

Corbin BM 3 Flat Key Flat key made by Corbin. According to the 1905 catalogue, this type of key was made for use with rim night latches that have a flat key cylinder versus the more modern key. The key is marked BM3 at the top and P & F Co. along the shaft on one side. The key measures 2 5/8"l. It has a notch at the center of the bottom of the bit and two notches on each side near the middle of the bit.

Interestingly, Philip previously worked for the company that would become Russell and Erwin, which Corbin would merge with in 1902. It ran with a number of subsidiary companies in the 1900’s including Corbin Cabinet Lock Co., Corbin Screw Company and even a Corbin Motor Vehicle Corporation! Corbin is still in business today under ownership of Assa Abloy under the name Corbin Russwin.
