Bennington Style Enamel Doorknob Set- Rim
Set of swirled brown enamel doorknobs with cast iron necks. This swirl design was meant to imitate wood grain or the marbling in stone in enamel form. This style is also called "mineral". This style was one of the earlier types of doorknobs, often pre-1900 and was used with many types of door plates and rosettes. The Bennington name is derived from Bennington, Vermont, where Christopher Webber Fenton developed the method of swirling or speckling the brown glazes in 1849. One knob has a rim along the bottom of the neck for use with external mount/rim locks. The rimmed doorknob goes against the lock to allow it to move smoothly over the mechanism when twisted. The doorknobs measure 2 1/4" in diameter. The doorknobs come complete with a shaft which fits doors between 1 3/4"- 2 1/2" thickness measured without door plates/lock box. If a different sized shaft is needed, please let us know. We may be able to accommodate different sizes.
This Bennington Style Enamel Doorknob Set- Rim is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
