The inset area measures 2 1\/2\"l x 7\/8\"h. There are two holes on the inside of the recessed area for attachment. The founders include Henry E. Russell, Cornelius B. Erwin and Frederick T. Stanley. Upon Stanley's withdrawal just one year later, it became Matteson, Russell and Company to reflect a new partnership with Smith Matteson and John H. Bowen. Six years later, the company officially becomes Russell \u0026amp; Erwin. In 1851, it becomes Russell \u0026amp; Erwin Manufacturing Company. They merge with P. \u0026amp; F. Corbin in 1902, but continue to produce under the Russell and Erwin name. American Hardware and Russwin were also brand names used off and on in conjunction with the Russell and Erwin name. By 1964, the division again separated and was purchased by Emhart Manufacturing under the name Russwin.
