Our Hardware Haul from a 70,000 Sq. Ft. Antique Store
The Hunt Never Stops: Our Ohio Salvage Story
At Antique Hardware Company, we go wherever the hardware takes us—and sometimes, that means pulling up to a crumbling, snow-covered property in the middle of winter.
We recently picked a 70,000-square-foot defunct antique store in Ohio, spread across two large, weathered buildings filled with a lifetime’s worth of antiques and architectural salvage. Months ago, we met the new owners and left with a carload of hardware. This time, we came prepared—with a box truck and a long list of what our clients are always looking for.
The Conditions Were Rough—But the Hardware Was Gold
One building had a collapsed roof, with years of water damage visible across all four floors. The second building was more intact, but pigeons had claimed the upper levels. Still, what we found inside was well worth the adventure.
Antique door bells, stacks of matching face plates, ornate knobs, mortise locks, decorative hinges—you name it, we were stepping over it. Every box we opened had something worth bringing back. The place may have been falling apart, but the hardware was incredible.
We spent the day carefully loading the truck, making sure every piece made it back to our workshop safely. Now, we’re working through the process of cleaning, identifying, and listing thousands of new items for our clients.
